song of the day: Jason And The Argonauts (XTC, English Settlement)

the band (me, matt keil on drums, chad phillips on bass) for tonights show had literally never played together. we had no sound check (matt had to drive 5 hours from Beaver Dam to make the gig), no rehearsal, and were literally playing the songs cold cold cold for the first time. additionally, the bass signal kept cutting out for some reason. considering all that, AND it was sunday night, AND it was father's day, i'd say it was a good show. on stage it felt like one of the wheels was about to come off all night long, every moment the band had a vibe like "ok, are we all playing the same section, ok, are we all about to make this transition, etc". you just have to have fun. and matt actually stopped the show at one point, and called a huddle on stage. with the entire audience watching, he pulled us into a huddle and told us "can we please bring up the energy two levels right NOW". and he was right on. after that, i made a promise to the audience that we wouldn't stop rocking, and if we stopped rocking they should walk out on us. funny.

after the show Vidyuddeva, Kayla, and Chad came back to my parents house (they're out of town) and we all hung out and talked till 3am. Vid and i went on and on talking dharma, levels and lines, absolute and relative. he's quite the diamond. chad almost fell asleep on the couch, kayla listened quietly, the Mystery did its thing.

this day i ate broccoli and milk duds, five bottles of water, two diet cokes.
